March Additives (part 1)

Hello, last month I wrote a post called “February Fasts” with a few things I decided to give up that month in order to pursue a healthier life. This month, I decided to share some things that I want to ADD more of in my life.

  1. Books: Thanks to Netflix, ABC’s The Bachelor, Facebook, and all of the other entertainment I can access on every device, I have lost my love for reading. In my personal life, a large amount of tragic things are currently occurring with my family and their health. Books seem like a way to spend time recharging, while opening my mind and gaining some good perspective. If you need me, I’ll be in a book shop. Does anyone have any book suggestions?
  2. Water: I want to drink more water. I’m usually dehydrated which affects me so much. Having a substantial amount of water in your body helps in every aspect and your skin will begin to GLOW as proof. I recently bought a Nalgene water bottle. I LOVE IT. Not only do I use it when I’m on the go, but I also use it in bed; it’s great to grab when I get thirsty in the middle of the night. It also has measurements on the bottle, so I am able to keep track of how much water I drink throughout the day.
  3. Decaf: Speaking of beverages, I have always been a lover of coffee– but due to my small frame, I get shaky and feel a huge impact. I am trying to cut back and drink decaf if I really must have a cup. P.S.- Caffeine is the worst if you already have any level of anxiety.
  4. Photography: Photography is my first love. Sometimes I drift in and out of shooting a lot. I would like to go into photography as more of a profession, so I hope to photograph more this month.
  5. Laundry: To be honest, I have a hard time keeping up with laundry. It’s one of my least favorite things to do. So I let my laundry pile up on my bedroom floor. This may seem lame, but I simply want to keep my laundry in the wash or in my closet– not on my floor! Anyone with me?
  6. Purchasing Permanent Items: I spend a lot of my money on going out to eat and food. Obviously this isn’t a great investment of my money because of how temporary food is. This month, I hope to spend less on food, in order to be able to spend more on items that I can have for a longer segment of time. For instance, this month, instead of buying sushi for $10–  I bought a water bottle for $10 which is a much better investment.

October Favorites

Happy October everyone! It’s crazy to think fall is already upon us. In honor of it being my birthday month, I thought I would share some random things that I’ve been loving lately. If you’re looking for a few different things to check out, give this a read.

1.Podcasts: Cults + The Tim Ferriss Show

I never listened to podcasts until about 2 weeks ago. I knew I would be traveling (flying and road tripping) which equals a whole lot of downtime. Podcasts are so easy to download and they’re free– crazy how it took me this long to get hooked. I love the wide variety of selection. You can really learn about anything you want (or just be entertained). Cults is a podcast with hosts telling stories about famous cult leaders, the psychology behind it, and the history. It was super intriguing. The Tim Ferriss Show, on the other hand, focuses on giving great advice. Whether he is talking about mindfulness or investments, it’s a great listen. 

2.Music: Tom Rosenthal + Ziggy Alberts

I work a bit from home and wanted some calm music. Tom Rosenthal is the perfect background music. Ziggy Alberts also has peaceful acoustic tunes, but it has more of an upbeat rhythm. 

3.TV Shows: Frasier + Bob’s Burgers

I started Frasier a couple of years ago and couldn’t really get into the show. I started watching Cheers and then moved onto Frasier once more. I have now seen every episode and it’s on my top 5 favorite shows list. My brother recently got me hooked on Bob’s Burgers. I’m pretty bummed it’s off Netflix now; but if you have Hulu, you’re in luck! 

4.Book: How to Win Friends and Influence People – (Dale Carnegie)

If you’re a person in business or a parent or a boss or a … person in general. Please read this book. You won’t be disappointed. The title may sound cheesy, but there is a reason this book is a classic! Pure gold. 

5.Food/Drink: Lemon Ginger tea + LaCroix Sparkling Water (Lemon)

I admit it. I’m addicted to coffee. I’m challenging myself to refrain from java. Instead, I’m drinking more tea. I typically drink a lot of black tea; but recently, I have found lemon ginger tea to have a really nice flavor (add a little honey!) and just seems a little bit healthier. To be honest, I love drinking soda with my meal. However, in order to be healthier, I started drinking LaCroix. I’m a huge fan of carbonation and it has zero calories and zero sugar. 

6.Beauty Products: Pharamacia Eau De Parfum (Vanilla Dore fragrance) + Smith’s Rosebud Rosebud Salve

Both of these products can be found at Anthropologie for a reasonable price. The perfume is not too heavy (like the majority of perfumes) and smells great. My lips are always incredibly chapped. I’ve tried so many lip balms and only Smith’s has seemed to really be effective! 

7.Wishlist: Patagonia Beanie + Wireless Bluetooth Headphones + Adult Coloring Books

In honor of my birthday month and Christmas soon approaching (I’m a Christmas fanatic), I thought I would add a wishlist category. I saw a Patagonia beanie at an REI store recently. It was SO warm and cute– perfect for winter! Also, I feel like my earbuds fail me more and more frequently. My third pair just broke. I would love some comfortable wireless, noise cancelling headphones. Anyone know of a good, affordable brand? Lastly, I’ve been weirdly obsessed with coloring these days. Such a good stress reliever!
